2013 to 2016

How on earth do ppl get thin? U think they would fail listening to them harping on for years trying various things half heartedly when suddenly BOOM,they give us a surprise!

I had two such friends, way fatter than me who are now way slimmer than me
😦

This year is however gonna be different. Already been on a diet pill for almost 3 weeks now and will ensure my resolution to stay in shape does not get broken…

2 weeks to start a Change

Keep It simple…

There is no going ‘on’ or ‘off’ your diet….

I was really inspired by Rujuta Divakar’s book – Don’t lose your mind, lose your weight when I read it a few years back. The few days that I followed the diet pattern- I did remember feeling lighter and good.So recently, after my flop ‘only  homemade mix veg soup diet’ attempt,I decided to go back to stuff that can actually work.

Despite the headline of 2 weeks, what I am really planning is a change in lifestyle. I started that a few years back by switching from white bread to brown bread, from cold drinks to green tea or juices. It felt huge at that time but now I cannot imagine switching over to either.Infact I recently made pav bhaji without butter and had it with whole wheat pav!

Habits take time to form but once formed, they tend to stay with you for life.My mom was a leftie but my Grannie used to hit her knuckles and turned her into a rightie,If natural instincts like that can be trained to change, so can I.It would be easier for me to lose 10 kgs than to start writing proficiently with my left hand!

I am giving myself two weeks to form new habits, to start a lifetime of change.

7 rules to follow for 2 weeks:

  1. A minimum of 20 mins of exercise per day ( crunches, twister, face exercises, yoga or just walking)
  2. 3 liters of water daily
  3. One meal a day will be of fruits and/or vegetables
  4. I will start my day with warm water with honey and lemon and end it with warm water with honey and cinnamon powder.
  5. Green Tea will be a part of my diet, even if it does not achieve much just for the clean feeling you get after drinking it!
  6. I will not order food when I am alone at home but rather when there are more than enough mouths to share it. This way I can taste it but not give in to eating more that I should.
  7. If I give in to temptation and break any rule, instead of giving up will keep going

I recently ordered Ab rocket Twister from TeleBrands so I can work out at home but it’s a waste. Ab King Pro was much better and I had gotten results before it broke a few years back. The only problem with it was that it was huge and took up a lot of space.
The ab rocket is small but not worth it at all. The seat is uncomfortable and does not sit well, its rocks when your doing crunches but I paid for it and will have to use it.

Am not giving up on soup either, I love soup but instead of Knorr sweetcorn will have my homemade concoction- it was surprisingly tasty!

Soup Recipe is simple- chop up the veggies you have at home- 2 of each is more than enough to lasts days- I used white gourd (lauki/doodhi),capsicum,potatoes,cauliflower,cabbage,carrot,tomatoes,onions,french beans.

Saute onions and 1 teaspoon chopped garlic in the cooker first, you can brown them too .

Wash veggies and put them in a cooker with 3 cups of water.4-5 whistles later, strain the mushy vegetables and save the water. Blend the mushy vegetables in a grinder and then pour into a vessel. Simmer for a few minutes then add the vegetable stock- salt, pepper, chilli flakes(if you like it spicy),oregano and basil. Add more water till you reach the required consistency and then store and drink all day long!

Wish me luck!

Throw dinner parties/Invite guests over –

Nothing can kill your appetite faster than cooking for others-

the hurried peeling, chopping, cutting, messy kitchen,

sweating over the hot stove…yuckkk!

The more you sleep, the less you are awake.

Unless you’re on a drip- there is no way you can eat and sleep at the same time.

Hence, the more you sleep the less you eat.

Read romantic novels/watch A grade movies –

There is something about watching/reading people in action,

that makes you forget about food! I mean,

you may think about strawberries and cream but not a Burger!

Get rejected by someone you love – This is a tricky one,

because it can cause you to eat too much as well but my one and only experience made me realize,

If you’re really, really hurt last thing on your mind is food.

A new day, a new diet, a solid intention…now pray it doesn’t get backfired!

Finally I am back….having learnt my lesson about shortcuts; I am going to do things the right way….or rather the only way.

I enrolled myself in an aerobics class, so daily I can exercise for an hour. This alone should ensure that I lose ¾ of the weight I want to, since I rarely exercise. My body won’t know what hit it!

Next, I found this diet– Not by some celebrity dietician but some normal folks who know what good food taste like. Its covers the diet for a month, divided by each week which slightly varies.

Thankfully I had some of the ingredients at hand, so I could start immediately (since I discovered this diet at 3 am ) and the rest I decided to buy as soon as the shops open!

I soaked 5 almonds and 4 teaspoons of methi seeds- got a little carried away there, since its one spoon methi seeds in 2 glasses of water. Will share with my mom, though…it’s thanks to her I have methi seeds at home.

With the 8 am stuff done, I needed to focus on the 9 am stuff. I did not have any brown bread at home and though it would have been easy to just buy them (as shops open by 8am here) I felt energetic/creative/excited and since I was feeling kinda bekaar all day(the real reason), I decided to bake some bread.Luckily,I found this super easy recipe by Tarla Dalal, that I tried today and found an ever better one but decided to try that some other day, when the sleep wasn’t kicking in!

So with the bread halfway through, I decided to look up some healthy chutney recipes- I mean how many days can I eat just green chutney, right?

Here are some of the interesting recipes I found, and mentioned in the order I might try them in.

Spicy Green chutney

Radish Chutney

Tomato Onion Chutney

Dalia Green Chutney – Don’t try them with the Murukkus/Chakli (evil me)

Tri colored Chutney

Cilantro Peanut Chutney

Tamarind Coriander Chutney

This one is here because it looks sooooo tempting, maybe I can incorporate it later, maybe week 2 for lunch or week 3 for dinner. I mean, If I pass week one, I deserve that much at least and it looks healthy too!

Now my bread is in the microwave oven and the chutney is ready. Today I felt whacky and made my own green chutney… it’s called mood! A bunch of Coriander leaves and a little stem, followed by a handful of Pudina leaves, green chilies- I used around 8, 2 small onions, few pieces of dried coconut, a little jeera and a little more pepper, small doze of sugar, a pinch of turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, mixed it all with some lemon juice and dash of water and Voila!

I assembled some green capsicum, tomatoes; onion (had no cucumber at home) while checking on my bread. After a few fumbles in the baking department, my ‘acquired taste walla homemade brown bread’ was ready! Hope my second attempt will be better but hey! At least I made my first bread before I got married 🙂

Before I could sit down to have my breakfast, I had to fix breakfast for my little brother who had to rush to work. Since he would not touch my delicious homemade bread, I used last night hamburger bread. Simply sliced in into two and instead of a sandwich assembled it like a pizza, butter, chutney, onions, tomatoes, capsicum, cheese, oregano and baked it for 10 minutes, served it to him with some ketchup and Tada– he went to work satisfied! The best part is, all the effort that it took me to assemble the fake pizza totally ruined my cravings and I was happy to settle down for my healthy meal…

Now, with only one toast sandwich to have, I had to make it good- so applied some chutney to the bread (I hate butter), capsicum and tomatoes and baked it in the oven for 5 minutes and sat down to eat it with some filling green tea.

With breakfast out of the way, I now have to kill time till I can have my next meal- a  whole fruit which is at 11.30 and it’s only 9 am now L

Chapter 2: Time killing…. Tried reading, working, hatching eggs, sleeping, watching TV and then finally 11.30 am came!

I had a green apple and (I know I succumbed to temptation),1 toast  but thankfully my friend came over and we were so engrossed in setting up her new phone we forgot to eat and  realized it was 5 pm. Just imagine, I hadn’t slept all night, not eaten since 11.30 am, all restaurants are closed (at this point we were outdoors doing the phone stuff). Finally we decided to eat a samosa, it has been ages since I have been anywhere close to this place and just could not resist the temptation. At this point, I do realize this blog sounds more like a food blog, rather than a diet one and there is more food to come!

After that we headed over to our favorite Chinese place and ordered Crispy chicken and Shanghai rice. It was raining so heavily and we were so drenched that we could not really eat the food, so after have a small bite of both, we asked for a doggy bag.

Looking at the beautiful freezing weather, we both knew I would now go to sleep for a long time. So I headed home and slept. Thus ended my kinda first day of diet. With a start like this, god knows how it will end!

BTW,I used the leftover chutney to make my own version of Pahadi chicken inspired by that chicken sandwich recipe mentioned earlier in this blog.

All I did was marinate the chicken for like 5 minutes (due to time constraint) in turmeric powder/salt/garam masala/freshly ground cumin-mustard powder and put in a kadhai with some heated oil and cooked it for 5 minutes, then added the green chutney and put a lid on and cooked it on medium flame for around 25-30 minutes and served.

Weight, Weight Go Away…

Man, weight loss is a pain.

I know that anything good is a big pain in the butt, but weight loss- it tops everything. Maybe even the pain of childbirth!

If you have always been fat, the good news is that you can become thin with a change in routine but if you were always skinny and then put on tons of weight, chances of you slimming down are SLIM 😦

Me, if you have read my previous ramblings, will know that I come under the second category,Thin when I should have had baby fat and Fat when I am no longer a baby…

Just do it, says my mind….just eat it, says my body.

Until I get out of my mind world and step into exercise reality, nothing will ever change, not my mind nor my body.

So today, as I am MY witness and so are you, my few 😦 readers out there, I have decided to really do it.

My clothes are ready, my kitchen is empty, my body is steady and my mind, it’s in two places right now but I will make it ready.

My list:

Workout clothes √

Medora capsules √

Tulsi Organic Green Tea √

Breakfast: Kellogg’s Wheat flakes/Saffola Peppy Tomato Oats/Soups √

Coconut Water √

Fruits √

Everything is there and here I am once again, ready for the battle of weights…

My reminder list: (to keep me motivated)

Sexy dresses

Sleeveless tops

Hot guys with damn good bodies…Shiv- Balika Vadhu/ Nihal Singh- Veera/ local gym trainers- cute ones not those extra beefy ones/etc …Am not saying I will get them but if I do, atleast I won’t feel inferior to them…their toned abs and tight butts!

Can eat anything and people will still say – you don’t eat kya!

Fountain of youth

Beautiful glowing skin (Fair and lovely face wash + green leafy vegetables and fruits)

Can wear sexy high heels all night long and not spend the next two days in bed paralyzed.

Weight loss; please come to me this year…I don’t want to be 50 and still be sitting on my computer and writing on this silly blog. I will be good, I promise 🙂 I do….

Medora Capsules Review

I have tried everything but never fully so I always keep going back to all my diet tricks….I know,I am doing everything but what I should be doing but that is the thing,I want to lose weight without much exercising so once I become thin,I can wear hot clothes and start exercising.

I purchased a bottle of Medora Capsules for Rs.230 which gives me 50(40 + 10 as a bonus )capsules.Need to use 3 capsules a day before a meal with lukewarm water and I am set to go.This bottle will last me 16 days and if I see any difference,a bigger bottle is on.

Wait n Watch!

Giselle’s Borrowed Diet Khichdi

It is so easy to give in to temptation, so easy to give up on your diet, so easy to keep stuffing your mouth with delicious junk food but so difficult so stay motivated.

We expect quick results and if we do not get them, we get demotivated but if we get some results as well, we celebrate it and then again get demotivated!

I tried gyming, spent a lot of money on it. The only thing I got when I left it is fats in places I never expected. Exercise is a habit that needs to be a permanent fixture in our lives for it to work positively.

I need to lose weight and I have to do it for ME. I want t be able to wear an M instead of an L or XL.I want to be able to buy the clothes I like rather than that which fits. Argghh…enough is enough. No more crying pathetically and not doing anything about it. I have never given up, I have determination. I do not have willpower but I am determined to do it.

It’s easy for me to lose focus. I am dreaming of a sexy figure one minute, the next I am noting down the recipe to make Biryani.

After so many starts and ends, I decided to club all the diets at one time and see if that will help me….

So presenting, Giselle’s Borrowed Diet Khichdi – Week One (Bouncing the quantity Weekly)

i.            Pre Breakfast (Empty Stomach) – 1 glass warm water with lemon (no honey at home right now, so will add a spoon when I get some)

ii.            Breakfast- 1 bowl Kellogg’s K or 1 bowl Masala Oats or 1 paratha (dab of oil only and made with mix flour- wheat/jowar/bajra etc) or 1 bowl white poha or 2 dosas/idli with chutney and 1-2 any fruits and green tea and 2 glasses of water.

iii.            Brunch- Fruits or 1 bowl soup

iv.            Lunch- 1 glass Herbal Life Chocolate Milkshake and Energizing Powder (only I hate milk, so I have it with water & instructions- 3 spoons milkshake powder and 1 spoon energizing powder mixed in one cup of water AND no, I do not sell or promote herbal life because If I could lose weight with food supplements only, I would not need it in the first place ,I am using my mom’s!!!)

v. Eve snacks- Fruits/Salad/Soup/Dry Fruits

vi. Pre Dinner- Anything I feel like eating or my mom got but in small portions

vii. Dinner- Whatever is cooked in small portions.

viii. 3 liters of water all day and plenty of liquids- green tea/fennel tea etc.

The key this time is to not stop myself from eating anything…I can eat whatever I want only once in a while and not a large portion. I realized that dieting makes me crave for food that I would not touch in normal frame of mind, so touch away this time!

I have been kinda following this diet for 2 days now so I can settle in and start a routine, so I can stick to it and lose weight.

I just need a strong reason to stay focused this time,God please make me fall in love so I can lose weight happily :p

Baby steps Diet Plan…

So I tried the 7 day liquid diet and I failed on my 3rd day, then I followed a new diet ‘Sleep during the day and have only breakfast and dinner’ diet  but that did not work too,for obvious reasons 😉

I realised I love food too much to immediately give it up and that too for 7 days. And these days,I have started experimenting in the kitchen again and man,I love the food I cook but I hate the way all the food is making me look! I am stuck with just 2 pairs of clothes,so I decided to cool it in the kitchen dept and just focus on making ME a better person.

My new plan is ‘Baby steps Diet (nothing to do with any author or book)’- and I dedicate it to all the diets out there. It is a mixture of everything in small doses.

The first diet under baby steps diet is ‘3 days Liquid detox‘.I know it sounds stupid- I could not manage a diet that let me eat all the food groups, how will I manage on liquids only? The answer is simple- IT is easy. When your having only liquids you can’t eat anything, munch anything,so u can just keep drinking and keep your jaws shut.

And starting right now,my diet goes live….

Things to have:

Water, water with lemon, water with lemon and honey, fruit juice/veg juice (no sugar/fresh is better)/Green Tea/Fennel Tea(Sauff Tea)/coconut water/meal replacement stuff ( I have some herbal life stuff that I will dust off and use)/Tang ( I know it’s not mentioned but i will treat my self to max 1 glass a day,if I feel the need- It’s liquid and full of vitamins)/You can also eat the fruits rather than juicing them- so I will munch oranges and grapes and cherry tomatoes.

I will twist 15 mins a day on my twister and do face exercises and siting clenches/have bath twice a day.

Wish me luck-

The End…and a preparation of a new start!

So I tried the GM diet again, it was my fourth attempt and I reached the second day almost successfully but that was all. Maybe I will try the GM diet again later sometime and make it work.

The con of GM diet is restricting you to not eat certain food groups on a day and make it work. If we had that kind of self control, we wouldn’t really need this diet now, would we?

After some research, I came across Doctor Oz Crash Diet and the food I should eat.

Eat fruits and vegetables, in its natural form as much as you want and some healthy oil and meat and weight loss would be a treat!

90/10 ratio is what it’s all about.

So lets review this one tommorow….
